This tutorial will give you the basics for understanding how to play the game and some light strategy as to how to use your first 1000 turns. As for learning the advanced strategies, you will have to ask the players in the Hall of Fame. Introduction Sage Wars is a web-based, massively multiplayer online game. You will be competing against hundreds, maybe thousands, of other players from around the world in your quest for glory. Rounds Sage Wars is played in rounds. A round is a month long and starts on the first of every month, between 6PM and 12AM Eastern Standard Time. The previous round ends at the same time the new round begins. Winners are calculated automatically and prizes are sent within 7 days of the end of a round. You can join an existing round without penalty for up to 3.5 days after the round has begun. After that, you begin to lose turns as the round progresses. However, you should use this opportunity to familiarize yourself with the game and give several character builds and strategies a try. Turns Turns are used for every action within Sage Wars. Each action requries a varying amount of turns. You can see the turn requirements for each action in the Sage Wars Help under the 'Game Panels' section. Your character earns 5 turns every 5 minutes. At 5,000 accrued turns, your character earns only 3 turns per 5 minutes with an overall maximum of 30,000. It is a good idea to always keep your stored turns below 5,000 so you do not lose them. How To Win Sage Wars tracks many different statistics throughout the course of a round and prizes are awarded for the top player in each stat division. You may view the current round leaders and divisions in the Hall of Fame. The winners of previous rounds can be found in the Hall of Fame Archives. Before You Play At the beginning of the game, you start with 1000 turns (extra turns are granted based on the amount of time the game has been in session, up to a max of 5000 starting turns), no units and no gold. To win the game you need to accumulate lots of both. Recruiting units will allow your kingdom to earn gold, but first you want to decide on a strategy. There are three main player types in Sage Wars: Soldier - A Soldier is a Strength based character. Soldiers are the undisputed rulers of the battlefield as long as there are units to command. If you have a standing army, no Sage or Merchant will ever be able to raid you and you will be able to walk over any non-Soldier army of equal size. However, Sages will be able to lock you down and slay your units with spells and Merchants will be able to steal your units and your weapons and armor. Sage - A Sage is an Intelligence based character. Sages have the best offense and defense in the game. A powerful Sage can lock down any player and slay all their units without even getting their hands dirty. However, Sages have no way to deal with Gargoyles, so Sages are unable to raid players with high Strength and large Gargoyle armies. Beware of Merchants, they will corrupt your crystal supply and attempt to sway the loyalty of your spellcasters. Merchant - A Merchant is a Reputation based character. Merchants generate the most money per turn of any player and can make unblockable attacks on other kingdoms. However, Merchants can be raided easily by Soldiers and locked down by Sages. Furthermore, Reputation cannot be trained and must be earned by raiding stronger players, casting beneficial spells or by filling trade orders. It does not matter which strategy you decide to use as you can win with any of them. You can always change your mind and try something else or try a combination of strategies. For the purposes of the tutorial, I'm going to go with a soldier heavy build. This is the safest build and, in the right hands, a soldier is a very powerful player and an extremely dangerous opponent. Continue to page 2 |
