Q: I just started playing. Now what?

A: Welcome to Sage Wars! If you are new to this type of game, you might want to check out the
tutorial. The help files are also extremely useful. If you have a question that is not covered, please send an email to help@sagewars.com.
Q: Is there a guide or tutorial on how to play?

A: Yes, there is currently one on the Help page that can give an idea of how to spend your turns. The tutorial is available
here.
Q: How do I get crystals?

A: You can either purchase crystals from the
Market game panel, or recruit Sages from the Kingdom game panel. Sages produce crystals every time you use a turn. For an overview of basic game play, check out the tutorial.
Q: How do I make gold?

A: There are two ways to make gold. The first method is to recruit Soldiers, Sages or Merchants who will earn it for you and the second way is to steal it from other players. If you are just starting the game for the first time, you will want to recruit. Recruiting people allows you to start earning money on the turns you spend. Once you have recruited, consider spending some turns training your character. A higher Strength allows you to be more successful in fighting and increases the number of Soldiers you can recruit per turn. A higher Intelligence allows you to cast more powerful spells and increases and number of Sages you can recruit per turn. Your might also consider purchasing Barracks, Libraries or Marketplaces. These buildings automatically recruit every hour up to the building maximum. In order to recruit, check out the
Kingdom game panel.
Q: What are Soldiers?

A: A Soldier is a Strength based character. Soldiers are the undisputed rulers of the battlefield as long as there are units to command. If you have a standing army, no Sage or Merchant will ever be able to raid you and you will be able to walk over any non-Soldier army of equal size. However, Sages will be able to lock you down and slay your units with spells and Merchants will be able to steal your units and your weapons and armor.
Q: What are Sages?

A: A Sage is an Intelligence based character. Sages have the best offense and defense in the game. A powerful Sage can lock down any player and slay all their units without even getting their hands dirty. However, Sages have no way to deal with Gargoyles, so Sages are unable to raid players with high Strength and large Gargoyle armies. Beware of Merchants, they will corrupt your crystal supply and attempt to sway the loyalty of your spellcasters.
Q: What are Merchants?

A: A Merchant is a Reputation based character. Merchants generate the most money per turn of any player and can make unblockable attacks on other kingdoms. However, Merchants can be raided easily by Soldiers and locked down by Sages. Furthermore, Reputation cannot be trained and must be earned by raiding stronger players, casting beneficial spells or by filling trade orders.
Q: How do I get more Soldiers/Sages/Merchants?

A: On the
Kingdom game panel, select "Recruit Soldiers/Sages/Merchants" from the drop down box, enter the number of turns you wish to spend recruiting then click "Recruit". Note that the amount you are able to recruit depends on a number of factors including the population and wealth of your kingdom and your character stats.
Q: Besides recruiting, is there any other way to make gold?

A: Yes! You can steal gold from other players by Pilfering them and selling the items you steal, by Raiding other players and stealing their gold outright and a number of other methods. We hear it is also possible to "buy low and sell high" on the market. Pay attention to the world events, they give clues as to market prices for various items.
Q: How do I break a Siege?

A: If someone has laid siege to your kingdom, you cannot take actions until you break the siege. To break the siege, open the Military tab and select Raid Siege. Target yourself by typing in your name or ID into the Target field and click 'Attack'. Even if the attack does not succeed, the siege will be damaged and you can try again. If you do not have enough troops to break the siege, consider recruiting more soldiers, summoning weapons/armor or asking a friend to help you break the siege. You can also break the sieges on others by using this attack.
Q: How is spell power determined?

A: While we won't give out the exact formula, we can tell you that your Intelligence, the number of crystals you use and the amount of sages you have all contribute. Note that Sages add more spell power than Scholars who add more spell power than Scribes.
Q: How do I get out of a Spell Lock?

A: A Spell Lock prevents all spellcasting except for the Disenchant spell. To remove the Spell Lock open up the Magic tab and select Disenchant. In the second box, select Spell Lock and target yourself by typing in your name or ID into the Target field. If your spell power is greater than the power of the Spell Lock, it will be lifted. If not, then the crystals you spent will weaken the power of the Spell Lock and you can try again later.
Q: Someone just did a full spell lock down on me (Fear/Plague/Poverty/Siphon/Spell Lock) and I can't dispel all of the debuffs. What can I do?

A: Spells decay at a rate of 1% every 5 minutes. So while you amass crystals and recruit Sages, the spells will weaken. Given enough time, you should be able to dispell them. You can also ask a friend to help.
Q: I have cast a number of times and I lose the turns but I do not get the money or crystals. What gives?

A: Check the
Summary game panel and ensure that you are not under the effects of bad spells.
Q: I keep getting pilfered, is there any way to protect myself?

A: There is no way to guard against a Pilfer attack. However, you can make yourself a poor target by making sure you do not have large quantities of weapons and armor lying around.
Q: I went from losing 1 reputation to losing 16, what happened?

A: If you continually attack a weaker player, the reputation penalty increases with the number of attacks.
Q: Why do I sometimes lose reputation when raiding a target?

A: Losses to reputation can occur by failing to uphold your end of a trade, attacking a weaker kingdom or by being beaten in battle by a weaker kingdom. A weaker kingdom is defined by their
Rank score. If the target Rank is 10% lower than yours, they are considered weaker and you will lose reputation. If the target Rank is 10% higher, they are considered stronger and you will gain Reputation. Note that you can counter-attack someone who has attacked you without Reputation loss.
Q: Why can't I send all of my merchants/sages/soldiers when I perform an attack on a target?

A: The amount of units you can send depend on the corresponding character stat. If it is a merchant attack, Reputation is the determining stat. For a soldier attack, the stat is Strength and for sages, it is Intelligence. To increase the amount of units you can send, increase the appropriate stat.
Q: How do I change the avatar image at the top of the "Play" page?

A: Only registered accounts are allowed to change their avatar. The avatar can be changed on the
Character game panel.
Q: Are Alliances/Clans allowed and are there any plans to implement a way to have organized Alliances/Clans? A: This version of Sage Wars is for single player play only, an Alliance/Clan version is planned and will be implemented if there is enough interest.
Q: How do I turn off the tips? A: Once you login to Sage Wars, go to your account page by clicking the "Account" button in the top-right corner, or by clicking here. There is a button named "Toggle Tips". Click it.
Q: What benefits do I get from buying a Registration Key?

A: By purchasing a Registration Key, you become eligible for prizes, you gain the ability to use Battle Keys, you can participate in the referral program and you can upload a custom Avatar to the game. Battle Keys are codes that enable you to add unique units to the game, such as a "Chief Architect" that removes the unit cap on buildings--meaning the buildings produce the maximum amount of units every turn.
Q: Are there any bonuses if I recruit a friend?

A: Yes! If a friend enters the email address you used to register as their referrer, your account is credited with a Battle Key. You must have a registered account to be eligible for the Referral Bonus.
Q: What is a Battle Key?

A: A Battle Key is a code that allows you to add the most powerful units in Sage Wars to your Kingdom. The units that are available are described in the
Special Unit section in the help files.
Q: I never received a confirmation e-mail, what do I do?

A: Check your spam folder, sometimes the e-mail is automatically filtered as spam. If you have a Yahoo, Gmail or Hotmail account, check the spam folder before you post on the forums or contact an administrator. If you still cannot find the registration email, you can request a new email to be sent to you
here or send an email to help@sagewars.com and we will be happy to assist you.
Q: I just registered, why does it say "Account Status: Unregistered" on my account page?

A: There are two levels of registration. The first level of registration is free and allows the user to play Sage Wars. The second level of registration can be accessed by purchasing a Registration Key. Once you log in, your account by be accessed by clicking the "Account" button in the top-right corner or by clicking
here.
Q: I submitted the PayPal payment for Registration/Battle Keys but have not yet received an email with the keys.

A: Send an email to help@sagewars.com and include the email address from which the PayPal payment came and we will be happy to assist you.
Q: Is there a way to retrieve my password if I don't have access to the email account?

A: Unfortunately, no. We do not have any way of confirming you own the account, so we can't tell you the password.
Q: Will you give out my email address to other companies so they can spam me?

A: Absolutely not. In accordance with our
Privacy Policy you will only receive emails from Sage Wars or our parent website, Od Studios, in the instance that there is something game related you should know about.
